I meet up with Bryce again to follow him throughout the day of his job search. I notice that this generation is embracing frugality in a way I did not envision. Many are living with parents, of course, but what I find interesting is that many are taking one similar habits of my subscribers by turning off cable, internet and videeo games all in a quest to save money. Or more likely, they have no choice but to cut out on all expenses considering they have no income and are ineligble for many government handouts such as food stamps, wic, section 8 housing assistance and welfare. Bryce introduces me to AD a friend taking one class at RCC. AD seems caught between 2 worlds, one legitmate world working for above board jobs like the US Census and another involving various black market opportunities. Finally you find a listing that seems like something you qualify for, only to see these words at the bottom of the listing….”Unemployed candidates will not be considered”. It seems crazy, that during a recession with millions unemployed that none of them would be considered for a job, but apparently its happening all over the country.
